The fact that you'll be looked upon and talked about negatively may hurt, but it's a small price to pay for everyone to know that this marriage was of it's own accord. Unfortunately I think the crime here is that most people assume they have gone against their parents wishes or have forcefully got their parents to agree and it is because of this they are labelled as a negative example. Then there's the problem that people won't even believe you if you tell them my parents were happy or they themselves tell you I was happy as a parent for my son or daughter in their choice.
