Movie Review: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

I don’t know exactly where to begin in writing this review for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I saw the movie on opening day, and I must say that I missed the original Evie previously played by Rachel Weisz, in the first two The Mummy movies. She was an integral part of the film.

The film was good, but not any where near the first two movies. It’s entertaining, full of action, and has an abundance of silly humour. But throughout the movie I kept thinking that something was missing.

Brendan Fraser does his role as expected as Rick O’Connell the explorer. The new Evelyn or Evie played by Maria Bello does a good job and performs well in some dangerous stunts. It’s not her fault at all that the original Evie is missed in the role.

Michelle Yeoh is amazing as Zi Juan, and has a presence that is beyond words. This woman is just fantastic! Jet Li does well as Emperor Han and the audience gets freaked out watching him in his nasty role.

Overall, it was a good movie, but not up to par with the original The Mummy movies.

The Toronto Star gave it only 1 star as well, saying it was completely confusing and had nothing to follow. It promises on the non-story parts of this series that being the action and stunts and bits of humour. I’m sure it’s still worth checking out when I do though.

  2. Sounds like Tomb of the Dragon Emperor met everyone’s expectations… Brendan Frasier tries too hard to act, so you can tell he’s acting

Hassaan: I think you will probably enjoy the humour…:)

movie kingdom: I agree with you about Brendan’s acting. It was a bit exaggerated.

I just came back from seeing the movie and I thought it was allright. I certainly liked the action and stunts, but otherwise the movie to me was a bit bland. I didn’t like the chemistry between Brendan Fraser & Maria Bello. She acted good in her own right, but I don’t think they worked all that great. There was only a few scenes of good humour as well, so not enough of that either as that is an important part of the Mummy series lol

The first 2 Mummy movies were just tooooo good. I agree with the lack of chemistry between the 2 main characters. That’s why I missed the original Evie. It’s mainly silly humour.

I didn’t like Maria’s acting that much. And Alex doesn’t even have much of a British accent! What’s with that?

Yeah, you’re right about the lack of a british accent for alex. maybe they did that because he’s been travelling. who knows.

hahaahaaa…or maybe because they decided that Alex would be more like his father: Rick O’Connell the American

lol…the movie was good for its effects …but the acting was very disappointing..especially Maria Bello’s..her acting was stretched she tried to hard and didn’t fit the role too well…Alex was in china , talking in chinese so he could have lost his accent :P
